This years biggest ever coffee morning, in aid of Macmillan Cancer care was a roaring success in Purley with at least 3 businesses holding excellent coffee mornings with loads of lovely cakes.
It wopuld take you a whole mornig to visit them all and see what was going on, so in order to research for the better good of Purley we selflessly decided to test out all the cakes on offer in support for this great event.
Rowland Brothers
First stop was Rowland Brothers Funeral Directors on the High Street and what a treat. We realised from the tweets the night befor that some serious bakeing was going on, however we were in for a real surprise, There were cakes galore and even by special request a super Chocolate cake.
So after much sampling we made good our appologies and moved on.
Andrews Estate agents
Next on our quest was a visit to Andrew Estate agents who also had anoth welcoming display of numerous cakes, some of these even bespoke with the Andrews logo.
This time we opted for Carrot cake and very nice it was with a lovely cup of tea. OK it is a coffee morning, however personally I much prefer a good old cup of tea. Had a very nice chat with Simon in Andrews and could have stayed for ages ad the cakes were looking so tempting.
Get Fired
Onwards and upwards, next we crossed the Brighton Road to Get Fired. One of Purley’s great treasure, the paint your own pottery shop is always welcoming and has such a great atmosphere. Lisa had provided a great array of cakes which included a special type of fairy cake with esspecially low callories and was very light, I guess as light as a fairy.
So in the interest of fairness we descided to go for the Chocolate borwnies instead and they were delicious. Also great to See Lisa having the VOTE YES sticker in the window for Purley BID, Many thanks.
Barclays
Last and unfortunatly (as we were so late) least was Barclays Bank on the Brighton Road. Because of the greast effort the team had already done in collecting for MacMillan charity going store to store with their cakes and collection jars, by the time we got to the Bank almost all the cakes had gone. This is sucha a great shame as we know how good a baker Emma at Barclays is so very dissapointed to miss out on their coffee morning.
It was nice to see how well they had got into the spirit of the day decorating the store with MacMillan Bunting, Well done team.
So after Barlacys we decided to retire full to bursting point.
What a great morning and support for a superb charity, roll on next year.
