Parking in Purley: Understanding the RingGo System and How to Appeal Unfair Tickets

In Purley, the convenience of parking has always been a priority for both the residents and the numerous visitors who come to explore our high street. Recently, Croydon Council looked to improve this experience through the introduction of the RingGo parking trial. This innovative system was designed to streamline parking payments, offering an alternative to the traditional ticket machines by allowing users to register and pay via a mobile app.

As the trial period concluded, Purley BID received feedback from the community indicating some confusion regarding the post-trial parking process. It has come to our attention that despite the trial’s end, individuals who continued using the RingGo app to register their parking have encountered unexpected issues, including receiving parking tickets when they believed they were compliant with the local parking regulations.

We want to clarify to all our residents and visitors: If you’ve parked in Purley and used the RingGo app for registration, you should not be receiving a parking ticket. Our discussions with the council have reaffirmed that the option to use RingGo remains available and valid alongside the traditional method of obtaining a ticket from the machine. This dual approach ensures flexibility and convenience, catering to the diverse preferences within our community.

If You’ve Been Mistakenly Ticketed

We understand the frustration and inconvenience that comes with receiving a parking ticket, especially when you’ve taken steps to comply with the parking regulations. If you or someone you know has been mistakenly ticketed despite registering with RingGo, we strongly encourage you to appeal this decision.

Appealing a parking ticket may seem daunting, but it’s a straightforward process that can rectify errors and ensure you’re not unfairly penalized. When appealing, it’s crucial to provide evidence of your RingGo registration for the period in question. This documentation is instrumental in supporting your case, demonstrating your compliance with the parking rules.

How to Appeal:

  1. Gather Evidence: Collect all relevant information, including your RingGo registration confirmation, parking location, and time of the incident.
  2. Submit Your Appeal: Contact the council’s parking services department to submit your appeal. This can typically be done online, via email, or through a written letter.
  3. Include Details: Clearly explain the situation, including how you complied with the parking regulations by registering with RingGo. Attach your evidence to the appeal.
