You may have noticed large bright poppies appeared on lampposts around Purley town centre to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War and join the ‘Thank You Movement’ launched by the Royal British Legion. Poppies will be around until Armistice Day on Sunday, 11th of November.
Purley businesses have all joined this cause and supported over 100 poppies you can see and enjoy around Purley town centre.
On Sunday 11th November members of the local community and businesses gathered together outside Purley Memorial Hospital on Armistice Day to remember all those who have died, been injured or have suffered as a result of conflict and the end of World War 1 in 1918.
Lead by Churches Together the service of remembrance was held around the Way-finder Stone and wreaths were laid.
