Purley BID Organisation of the Month July 2020

Congratulations to Purley War Memorial Hospital

Purley War Memorial Hospital (PWMH) has been part of the fabric of the Purley community since it first opened in 1909. Since then, the hospital has transformed alongside its population – initially providing seven traditional hospital beds and now offering a range of outpatient services to patients in the community, including blood tests, x-rays and an out of hours GP hub. The site also houses some of the borough’s hardworking district nurses, who visit patients in their home to provide them with the care they need to keep them healthy and well. In recognition of PWMH’s status as a historic landmark in 2013 the hospital undertook a £11.15m refurbishment, which spruced up the building’s original features.

Site Manager Peter Downes, said: “Every member of staff here at Purley War Memorial Hospital, and across Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, is dedicated to delivering the best care possible to the members of our community. We are proud of our staff all year round, but especially the way they have risen to the challenge during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. We’re so pleased to be part of the fabric of Purley’s town centre!’

We are extremely grateful to our wonderful NHS and all keyworker staff who have been absolutely fantastic during the COVID-19 lockdown. We are very fortunate to have this amazing resource in Purley and thank all the staff and many volunteers for their dedication to our community.

We will join with the nation for a thank you “clap”, at 5pm, on Saturday 5th July to celebrate the 72nd Birthday of the NHS and remember all those that have died and are affected by COVID-19.
