Purley Business Improvement District (BID) is thrilled to share the exciting projects made possible by the UK Shared Prosperity Funding allocated to Purley through the support of Croydon Council. These initiatives have significantly enhanced the local area, making it more vibrant and welcoming for residents and visitors alike. We are truly delighted with the results.
One of the standout projects is the revitalisation of the popular mural under the railway arch on Godstone Road by renowned artist Lionel Stanhope. His efforts have not only refreshed the existing artwork but he has also added a new painting on the other side of the arch, bringing a fresh and lively atmosphere to the area.

Local artist Chris Shea, from State of the Art, has also made a remarkable contribution by transforming the Rotary Block. His artwork celebrates Purley’s rich history, particularly highlighting the world’s first iron railway that ran through the area along the Rotary Field path. The modern twist in his work provides a unique glimpse into what the railway might have looked like, blending historical significance with contemporary art.

The creative talents of Year 4 students at Christ Church School, Brighton Road, Purley, have also been showcased through their artwork inspired by artist Julian Opie. Their contributions add a youthful and artistic touch to the community.

The new winter lights on the High Street are a spectacular addition, continuing to illuminate the area. These lights create a magical ambiance at night, making the High Street a delightful place to visit.

New banners have been installed along the roads in Purley, adding a sense of identity and brightening up the lamp columns. These banners contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the town, making it more inviting.

The Royal Oak Centre has been adorned with vibrant and colourful art by artist, Jonathan Armstrong, provided by Steven Robertson Art. This work has brought a burst of colour and energy to the centre, enhancing its visual appeal and creating a more engaging environment for everyone.
New Gobo lights project onto the ground, highlighting Purley’s Fitness Quarter.
Purley in Bloom has also benefited. New flowers and plants have been provided to fill any gaps on Purley Cross, the Rotary Field and around the town. A new noticeboard has also been provided, so that Purley in Bloom can keep the Purley community up-to-date with projects and meet-ups.

This amazing amount of projects projects, supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, have truly transformed Purley, making it a more attractive and lively place to live, work, and visit. The Purley BID is proud to have facilitated these improvements and looks forward to continuing to enhance the community
