2022 in Purley Part 1 Access and Safety

2022 was yet another hugely successful year for the Purley Business Improvement District (BID) supporting the business district and in turn, making Purley a better place for residents, visitors and businesses.

Purley BID generally delivers its projects to 3 core areas of benefit that are approved by the Purley BID Board. These being 1) Access and Safety, 2) Business Support 3) #DestinationPurley

Below is a high level bullet point list of some of the projects that the Purley BID Delivered with relation to:

 Access and Safety

  • Heavily lobbied for and got extra policing
  • Provided extra private security
  • Increased and targeted security patrols up to 3 a night
  • “No cash left on premises” shop stickers created and distributed
  • Many meetings with the police Safer neighbourhood team (SNT)
  • Started up regular “Coffee with a copper” engagement meetings
  • Improved direct communications with SNT team
  • Shutter subsidy created for Businesses
  • Pub Watch Group
  • Homeless management, liaising with appropriate organisations
  • Graffiti removal, commented on cleanest district centre in borough, working on the broken window principle
  • Signed up Purley to Women’s Night Charter
  • The Talk Bus visited 11 times providing support for mental health and youth issues
  • Confirmation of land handed over to TFL for Purley Kink
  • Several meetings with GLA, TFL on the “Purley Kink”, not looking hopeful
  • 5 Litter Picks
  • Rotary block application to manage submitted and approved after 6 years of application
  • Countless issues highlighted on Report it including, potholes, homeless, overgrown area, graffiti, flytipping
  • 6 lorries worth of flytipping removed
  • Attending Purley Ward Panel meetings 
  • Council liaising improvement in walkways
  • Reporting and resolving belly bin overflowing
  • Pigeon feeder fined, looking for a solution that both supports peoples appreciation of wildlife as well as preventing unhygienic mess and littering
  • Challenging impact of the Croydon Centre PSPO on Purley
  • Croydon Dementia Alliance Association CDAA, restarting after pandemic
  • Responded to ULEZ survey
  • Purley “comparatively safe” often quoted by numerous agencies
  • Crime advice passed onto businesses to report all incidents to 101 and share additional information with the crime reference in email to the local police SNT team
  • Dangerous High Street tree that was unsafe, we got removed
  • Site visit of Downland’s precinct with management company
