Family story-trail returns to Purley April 2021

From 19th April 2021, families in Purley will be able to track down the ‘Secret Carnival’ and its wily characters via smartphones thanks to Purley Business Improvement District (BID).

As high streets open once more this April, Purley BID is aware that families are looking for fun activities that are safe, socially distanced and contactless. As part of our programme of events, we’ve teamed up with QR code trail experts High Street Safari to create the free, interactive story-trail that is designed to encourage children to walk, get engaged and most importantly, have a lot of fun.

Following on from the successful Monster Hunt Safari held last year, the Secret Carnival Family Trail launches in April and it will raise money for the South East Cancer Help Centre.

The Secret Carnival Family Trail is positioned around Purley town centre with 10 carnival characters, like Harlequin, the cheeky jester.

The 10 wily and whimsical carnival characters have been spotted in these parts and it’s your job to find them! Purley BID businesses invite families to Purley town centre to take part in this fantastic story trail.

How to start the story-trail

Start the trail by going to www.secretcarnivaltrail.com and finding the first character.

The first time you scan the QR code on your phone you will be directed to a donation page. This will ask for £2 which will go to South East Cancer Help Centre as they are our Charity of the Year for 2021/22.

Learn the names and stories of all 10 characters and then create your own, free e-book. As you stop at each character you’ll be directed to take a ‘scene selfie’ if you wish to. This means taking selfies with instructions like ‘look amazed’ or ‘look curious’. Once you’ve done all 10 you’ll be able to create your own, personalised ‘selfie storybook’ with your selfies as part of the story – a lovely keepsake to remember your day out.

To take part simply:

  1. Visit the website to see the trail map

2.   Hunt down the carnival characters

3.   Scan their QR codes with your smartphone, learn their names and jobs and take your ‘scene selfie’.

4.   When you’ve found them all, upload your selfies and create your free Secret Carnival storybook – with you as the stars!
