Keeping Purley bright in the winter months

Since the beginning of the year, Purley BID has been working really hard to ensure that we can have Christmas lights this year.

We had to overcome several issues, one of which was getting something called a Section 8 Agreement.

This Agreement means that the council can take responsibility for the lampposts on the TFL red route roads. Previously it was the responsibility of TFL, but this year we have had to change for several reasons.

Purley BID has arranged and paid for this Section 8 Agreement as well as ensured all lampposts were tested to be compliant to allow Croydon Council to put up the Christmas lights this year.

So, it was with great relief and acknowledgement of all the hard work involved, that we finally have confirmation that the Agreement is in place.

This is a typical example of what the BID does behind the scenes to get initiatives like this underway or maintained. And, it’s always a huge relief when we get the go ahead.

We’re sure you’ll agree that the Christmas lights alongside our winter lights in the 7 trees on the High Street and Brighton Road really help to brighten up Purley during the winter months helping to keep the town attractive as the nights draw in.
