Tesco Extra is proud to support local causes and make a positive difference by working with local businesses and employing local people. Tesco support national charity campaigns and is committed to using its scale for good; where communities thrive, business thrives too.
Tesco sponsor Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life each year and also support Diabetes UK.
Customers can nominate local projects to receive funding from the sale of reusable bags for life. Every two months, Tesco give grants of up to £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000. Since its launch in 2015, Bags for Help has awarded £79million in grants to over 26,000 community projects across the UK. Tesco also strive to reduce the amount of food waste produced. Working with Fareshare, they regularly donate surplus food to local charities. Tesco have a permanent food collection point in store, where customers can donate long-life food to charity. Since 2012, they have collected over 52 million meals, this includes customer donations, plus a 20% top-up from Tesco.
