Food & Drink Festival 2019

Purley BID Food & Drink Festival 2019 on the 8th June was another great success, with a large crowd sampling local food and drink from Purley based businesses. It was a blustery Saturday but that didn’t stop the fun as there was something for everyone. The newly appointed Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Humayun Kabir was in attendance, along with his wife, and enjoyed chatting with the stallholders and festival goers. With stalls from Lupita Café, The Jolly Farmer’s Pub, Elliot’s Bar & Restaurant, The Pear Tree Pub, Dominos Pizza, Tesco, Coughlan’s Bakery, Big Mike’s Calypso, The Next Level Café & Patisserie, Baxfood Ltd, 4Locos Argentinian Steak House, The Cake Tailor and Art & Craft CRO the choice was definitely varied.

For the fourth year running the Food & Drink Festival encouraged local restaurants, cafes and bars to showcase themselves and promote the day and night-time economy in Purley. The ever-popular Smoothie bike, sponsored by Frost, kept people entertained throughout the whole event, along with the fun Blind-folded Lemon Catching Championships, sponsored by Tesco. There were many free activities for children, including face-painting, sand art, garden games, candy floss and the very special Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, which resulted in over 250 cup cakes and biscuits being decorated throughout the afternoon.

The Purley Rotary did a wonderful job, as always, in marshalling the gate and with the varied live music on offer, the event provided families and foodies a demonstration of the great establishments in Purley. The event was well organised and brought to you by the Purley BID on behalf of the levy payers of Purley businesses.

Simon Cripps, CEO of the BID, said “It was a fantastic event and wonderful to see so many families enjoying what Purley has to offer at the Food and Drink Festival”.
