It was great to see so many members represented at the conference which took place on 23rd October at Christ Church Purley and sharing Purley BID’s current projects and future plans.
Following a warm welcome from Marlon Johnson (Chairman), Simon Cripps, CEO of Purley BID, outlined the structure of the team, the budget the team had to work to and how the team have delivered an extensive number of projects designed to support Purley businesses and improve the area.
Projects included but were not limited to:
– A hard hitting campaign against the excessive business rates imposed on Purley businesses and gaining support from local MP, Councillors and GLA member
– Identifying efficiency savings helping businesses to reduce costs
– Brightening up the area with flower baskets, banners and art work
– Improving parking facilities in the multi story car park and new signage
– Introducing additional parking spaces on the high street
– Reporting and fixing over 80 issues related to fly tipping, anti-social behaviour and road repairs
– Working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Town
A range of events have been held during the year to attract new visitors to Purley and promote Purley businesses including the Purley Food and Drink Festival, Live Well in Purley, Easter Egg Hunt, Festive Season Best Dressed Window competition, Purley Christmas Lights Switch On and others.
The Purley BID team has been working closely with Purley businesses, Croydon Council, Neighbourhood Police Team and other agencies to make Purley safer, cleaner, greener and more attractive to new business and visitors.
