Purley BIDding for £1m investment

Purley looks to benefit from £1m investment if Tory Mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith gets elected in on the May 5th Poll.

Zac Goldsmith visited Purley again on Monday afternoon to pledge his support for the town. In his latest visit he announced a £20m greater London fund with £1m being earmarked for developing Purley.

These improvements are supported by research performed by the newly formed Purley BID highlighting areas of improvement required the regenerate the town. Purley BID has been lobbying local GLA Councilor Steve O’Connell to look for much needed investment in the area.

One of the key areas for investment would be improving the parking in Purley. “We currently have adequate spare parking spaces in the multi-story car park for short term visitors, however the unhygienic stairwells and decommissioned lifts deter a significant amount of visitors to Purley” said Simon Cripps CEO of Purley BID. He continued “for mothers with pushchairs and toddlers or for anyone with mobility issues the car park is now effectively out of bounds. The investment required to recommission the lifts is outside the scope of the Purley BID and requires support from Council or Local government. We really welcome the support of Zac and his team realizing the importance of investing in Purley”.
This announcement was made by the Conservative hopeful in Lupita Coffee House after a town walk about on Monday afternoon. Owner of Lupita and BID Chairman welcomed the news “This is great news for Purley and shows that within only a couple of months the BID is being heard and making a positive difference. “

GLA Assembly member for Croydon and Sutton councilor Steve O’Connell threw in -his support for this new proposal stating “This investment pledge from Zac will help regenerate Purley. This is a great town that has been neglected, we must invest now to prevent any further decline and as GLA member I fully support this great initiative.”
